Depression

It is with a sincere degree of understanding that the topic of depression should be addressed at this point in time. Our current living routines have been so severely restricted for so long that the affect on our mental health has been catastrophic.

From what I’ve witnessed in terms of complaints from clients lately. Is that depression ranks the highest far and away. It seems like every client, even the ones that have never mentioned it before are all now listing it as one of their most concerning issues. They cite the endless confinement due to the lockdown as being the reason.

This needs to be addressed. Because if left untreated, lingering depression is associated with a greater risk of anxiety, confusion, lack of concentration, poor decision making, forgetfulness and alcoholism.

Causes and Complications

The regions of the brain most effected by depression, mostly prefrontal cortex and hippocampus share the same neural pathways that regulate mood and cognition. Both these areas reveal a decreased amount of neuronal synapses.

Also a hyperactive and enlarged amygdala, when combined with other less functioning parts of the brain can lead to poor sleep patterns, hormonal disruptions and chemical imbalances that will further complications.

The common theory of chemical imbalances that are associated with depression, by the lack of neurotransmitters (serotonin) between nerve cells in the brain is generally accepted as the reasonable explanation.

Serotonin helps regulate appetite, sleep, mood and inhibits pain. Low levels of this neurotransmitter have been linked to a higher risk of suicide.

Predispositions to developing depression can be inherited but biological causes include: age, gender (twice as many women than men), major illness as well as isolation and stress.

The Depressed Brain

Research shows that a depressed brain physically ages faster. A Yale University study indicates that there is a physical change that is accelerated within the depressed brain that may leave a person more susceptible to illness.

Brain regions involved with emotions and self-perception have thicker grey matter which help contribute to depression.

Hope with LENS.

We know that our brain by its very design is reactive to frequencies and learns in patterns. Knowing this allows us to crack the code in getting right to the issue—dis-regulation. If a once healthy brain can be affected by outside stimuli enough to put itself in a harmful pattern of brainwave behavior, then it can be assisted to return to a more balanced state.

LENS therapy specializes in establishing a more appropriate state for stronger neuro circuitry and connectivity to occur that will lead the brain towards greater flexibility and optimal functioning.

We target the centers of the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus along with an entire map of the cerebral cortex to reset itself and break away from its maladaptive, frozen looping behavior brought on by trauma that resulted in a slowing of brainwaves.

From a neurofeedback standpoint, depression is an imbalance of brainwave frequencies in both the right and left hemispheres within the prefrontal cortex.

I have seen clients within several sessions feel real improvements in mood and mental clarity. Depression is not a death sentence and can be dealt with. Clients are often happy with the results we get them and soon return to more productive lives.

It’s understandable how so many of us have gotten to this point. But, please don’t think there isn’t help out there. Our brains are a remarkably adaptable organ that is very responsive to friendly bio-currents.

NeuroBalance gives hope to all of our clients. Not by treating depression, but by allowing the brain and nervous system to relax and calm down. Then to reorganize and integrate to those new changes it makes itself as a result of the LENS signal.
